The Uintah County clerk's offices are responsible for preserving and keeping these records up-to-date. Utah court records have numerous applications within the judicial system. Are Court Records Public in Uintah County?
Yes. Additionally, the Utah Code of Judicial Administration Rule 4-202.02 lists various types of public and non-public court records. Uintah County Criminal and Civil Records
In Uintah County, depending on the specifics of a criminal or civil case, it can fall under the jurisdiction of the County District or Justice Courts. Uintah County District Court has general jurisdiction over civil and all criminal felony cases. Meanwhile, the Justice Courts have jurisdiction over small claims, infractions, and class B and C misdemeanors violations of ordinances committed within their jurisdiction. Hence, depending on which court handled a case, record seekers can get court records of Uintah County criminal and civil cases through the County District or Justice Courts.
Interested persons can access public court records of criminal and civil cases handled by the Uintah County District Court and Justice Courts through the Utah XChange website. Record seekers can use the XChange website as guest users and pay per search or register an account and pay a monthly subscription per search to use the site. Litigants can also access court records of their cases through the My Court Case portal. Nonetheless, free access to the XChange website may be available through public terminals at the Uintah County District and Justice Courthouse. For a fee, record seekers can also request physical copies of public court records in person at the clerk offices of local courthouses.
The Utah State Archives also preserves court records of older cases (cases older than 50 years) handled by the Uintah County District and Justice courts. Inquirers can visit the Utah State Archives in person during its hours of operation, weekdays, from 8 am to 5 pm, to access these records. Court record research is by appointment only. Some law enforcement agency's records, like Uintah County arrest records, are also considered Uintah Criminal records. Interested persons can access these records through local law enforcement agencies like the Uintah County Sheriff's Office and municipal police departments.
Uintah County Marriage Records
In Uintah County, marriage licenses are issued by the County Clerk/Auditor's Office, and information about marriage licenses is accessible to the general public upon request. Hence, anyone can query the Uintah County Clerk/Auditor office to inquire about Uintah County marriage licenses. Uintah County marriage certificates from 1978 to 2010 are also available through the TriCounty Health Department and the Utah Office of Vital Records and Statistics (OVRS). Note that marriage records are not public for 75 years after their recordation. As a result, certified copies of a marriage certificate are only obtainable by eligible persons or for legal needs. These eligible persons include the groom or bride or either party's parent, sibling, child, grandparent, or grandchild. Additionally, identification is required for the issuance of marriage records.
Eligible persons can request marriage certificates from the OVRS online through the UtahID portal. Requesters must log in or create an account to access the portal. Alternatively, requesters can request a marriage certificate by completing the Certificate Request Form and submitting it along with all required items (i.e., the requester's ID and applicable fees) to the OVRS.
Meanwhile, eligible persons can order Uintah County marriage certificates from the TriCounty Health Department by completing the Marriage/Divorce Certificate Request Form. The completed request form and other required items should be submitted to the TriCounty Health Department Vital Record Office or Roosevelt Office in person or by mail.
It is worth noting that the OVRS and TriCounty Health Department maintain other types of vital records in Uintah County in addition to marriage certificates.
Uintah County Divorce Records
Like marriage records, Uintah County divorce records are public after 75 years. The District Court in Uintah County presides over divorce cases and creates and maintains divorce court records. Hence, records seekers can obtain Uintah County divorce records through the District Court. Interested persons can visit the District Courthouse to request divorce records.
Alternatively, Uintah County divorce certificates from 1978 to 2010 can be ordered from the Utah Office of Vital Records and Statistics online through the Utah ID portal or by using the Certificate Request Form. For the latter, requesters can submit the completed request form and submit it with other required items, such as the applicable fee and the requester's acceptable ID, by mail or in-person to the Utah Office of Vital Records and Statistics. Similarly, Uintah County divorce certificates from 1978 to 2010 can also be ordered from the TriCounty Health Department using the Marriage/Divorce Certificate Request Form.
Uintah County Birth Records
Utah's Office of Vital Records and Statistics (OVRS) maintains Uintah County birth records from 1905 to the present, while birth records from 1931 to the present are accessible through the TriCounty Health Department. Like other vital records, birth records become public after 100 years.
Record seekers can order a Uintah County birth certificate from the OVRS online through the Utah ID portal. Alternatively, requesters can complete the Birth Certificate Application and submit it along with other required items (i.e., correct fees and a copy of their acceptable ID) to OVRS.
On the other hand, requesters can order birth certificates from the TriCounty Health Department using the Birth Certificate Request Form. The request form should be completed and submitted to the TriCounty Health Department along with the required fee and a photocopy of the requester's accepted identification.
Uintah County Death Records
Uintah County death records are available from 1905 to the present through Utah's Office of Vital Records and Statistics (OVRS). Death records become part of Uintah County public records after 50 years. Like other vital records, certified copies of a death certificate are only issued to certain eligible persons. Record seekers can order these records from the OVRS online through the Utah ID portal or by completing and submitting the Death Certificate Application.
The TriCounty Health Department also provides Uintah County death records from 1990. Interested persons can order a death certificate by completing and submitting the Death Certificate Request Form to the department. Note that requests for death records are subject to specific fees, and requesters must present an acceptable form of identification to request these records.
Uintah County Probate Court Records
In Uintah County, probate cases are handled by the County District Court. Hence, queries for probate court records can be directed to the Clerk's Office of the County District Court.
